Education and Sports

Our pupils are well catered for with first class indoor and outdoor facilities and modern equipment offering a variety of sports including tennis, indoor hockey, basketball, volleyball, hurling, camogie , tag rugby, football and swimming. We are very fortunate to have a large playing pitch on the school grounds. We have formed a very successful link with the local G.A.A.club and also the Munster Rugby club.

Computers

Cappawhite N.S. is well equipped with computers in each room; all computers are networked and have broadband access. We have interactive whitebaords in every teaching classroom which are used on a daily basis to aid teaching. The children have daily access to a fully equiped computer room , boasting 12 networked computers and laser printer. This room also has an interactive whiteboard. The children have oppurtunity to do project work and research to aid learning. The children will have the opportunity to display their work on their school website.

Library

We have a well-stocked central library and each classroom has its own library to promote the practice of reading for learning and leisure. Paired reading between classes is also encouraged which promotes literacy as a positive and enjoyable experience.

Projects

In Cappawhite we are very proud of our record on Environmental issues. We have been awarded three Green Flags, a European initiative, awarded for Environmental excellence. We have received the tidiest School Award on two occasions. Planting and caring for flowers and shrubs gives the pupils first hand experience in looking after the environment in which they play.

Drama

Cappawhite N.S has a long tradition in encouraging performance and with the help of Visiting drama teacher Ms.Emma Walshe the pupils of the school perform plays at our annual show in our new Multi Purpose Hall. We also preform a christmas themed play at the annual Christmas Carol service in the village church. We then preform the play at the Old Folks Christmas Party in the local Resource centre.

Lunch Policy

It is our policy to promote healthy lifestyle and healthy eating so we were delighted to launch a healthy eating policy in our school in 2005. The pupils helped to devise thepolicy. A parent of the school Mr.Seamus Lennon, a qualified chef, offered healthy suggestions for the lunch boxes on our launch night. The dietician also spoke on the night.
